Andor Revolution XD is a live cell, multi-line, laser spinning disk,
confocal microscopy system, which exploits the Yokogawa CSU, dual Nipkow disk and exquisite sensitivity of Andor iXon EMCCD technology. The system runs under control of Andor iQ software to provide a dedicated solution offering tight hardware synchronization, optimal frame rate and minimal specimen exposure. The Andor laser combiner (ALC) completes the product family to provide a solid state laser illumination solution, integral AOTF for rapid switching and intensity control and flexibility for almost any imaging scenario. For the 3D course we will be providing
2 EMCCD cameras: a 512x512 BI chip with >90% QE, and the 1Kx1K VP chip running at 35MHz.  Three SS laser lines will be availble: 405, 488 and 561. The optics of the CSU have been reconfigured to optimize the output signal and provide the option of greater magnification to attain the Nyquist limit at the detector.  There will also be a Bioptechs deltaT  stage warmer available for environmental control."

Improvision will be demonstrating Volocity, our high performance 4D modular imaging software for Windows and Mac OS. Featuring an award winning user interface, Volocity accepts wide field and confocal data from a large number of sources and in many different formats. Volocity comprises four unique, totally integrated products that provide a comprehensive suite of tools to perform a range of imaging functions including:
1. High speed image capture of 3D and 4D multichannel volumes.
2. Rapid, interactive, high resolution volume rendering of 3D and 4D data sets.
3. Object detection, measurement and tracking in 3D and 4D, with object and track overlay display and a wide range of chart creation options.
4. Colocalization functions for statistical analysis of multichannel data sets in 3D and 4D.
5. Image restoration algorithms for deconvolution of 3D and 4D data using measured or calculated PSFs.
6. Publication features including the creation of AVI and QuickTime movies as well as QuickTime Virtual Reality movies.

Our demonstration will use the latest version of the software, Volocity 3.5, released on May 9 th 2005. This release includes a 64-bit version which takes advantage of the latest developments in computing technology, the Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system. Benchmark tests have confirmed that overall Volocity 3.5 is up to 36% faster using 64-bit Windows OS compared to the standard 32-bit Windows OS. Volocity 3.5 is the first scientific imaging software to be released with a 64-bit version and represents a major step forward in 3D and 4D imaging technology. And their software will be running the Quorum disk-scanner.
